1. What really sets your faith apart from other religions? How are Christians different?
2. Take a look at verses 20–22. What “way of life” have we learned from Christ?
3. In verse 24, who has “created” the “new self” to be “like God”? Who puts off the old self? Who puts on the new self?
4. What areas of behavior do you see in verses 25–29?
5. What do you think it means to “grieve” the Holy Spirit?
6. What does it mean to be “sealed for the day of redemption”?

LIVE IT OUT
Try out the following and we can get together and talk about your experience.

Confession: This passage mentions various behaviors we should examine in ourselves. Where have we strayed from the way of Jesus, especially in the areas of truth-telling, angry outbursts, stealing, and destructive language? But don’t just feel guilty about these things— confess them and carry a new commitment to live God’s way

Communication Review: Take some time to evaluate your patterns of communication: at home, in the church, and at work. Are you telling the whole truth, or just avoiding technical lies? Are you building others up? Consider healthier habits you could work on.

Accountability: Invite a trusted Christian friend to check up on you as you find new ways to put on the “new self” and learn the way of Christ.

1. What really sets your faith apart from other religions? How are Christians different?
What really sets my faith apart from other religions is grace. The way Christians are different is that Christians do good works out of love of God while others do good works to protect themselves.

2. Take a look at verses 20–22. What “way of life” have we learned from Christ?
The "way of life" we have learned from Christ is a selfless way of life.

3. In verse 24, who has “created” the “new self” to be “like God”? Who puts off the old self? Who puts on the new self?
God has created the "new self" to be "like God". We put off the old self. We put on the new self.

4. What areas of behavior do you see in verses 25–29?
The areas of behavior I see in verses 25-29 is speaking the truth, being selflessly angry, laboring, and only speaking a word is good for edification.

5. What do you think it means to “grieve” the Holy Spirit?
What I think it means to "grieve" the Holy Spirit is to do the opposite of verse 31.

6. What does it mean to be “sealed for the day of redemption”?
What it means to be "sealed for the day of redemption" is to be saved.

1. Christians do not say, "Do good so you will be right with God," instead, we say, "By grace through faith you are right with God; because of this, do good."

2. The way of life we have learned from Christ is the way of putting off our old self and no longer following deceitful desires.

3. We put off the old nature that is ours by birth in order to put on the new nature that is made by God in His own image.

4. The areas of behavior mentioned here could be divided into two categories.
Speech: "put away falsehood ... speak the truth ... no corrupting talk"
Actions: "Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger ... no longer steal ... doing honest work with his own hands"

5. To grieve the Spirit is to act contrary to the new nature God has given us.

6. Being sealed for the day of redemption means that our salvation and glorification is ensured because God the Holy Spirit, Who is currently within us, guarantees it.
